The Issigonis designed 1100 or BMC ADO16 was produced from 1962 until 1974 and was Britain’s best-selling car for several years, with nearly 2. 5 million produced in Austin, Morris, Riley, Wolseley and MG variants.
This car is a 1963 Morris 1100 in Dove Grey. It is in beautiful condition with a high level of originality. The mileage reading is 37, 000 from new which is almost certainly correct, due to a long period off the road.
It was discovered five years ago by its last owner in solid order but unused for many years. He embarked on a re-commissioning and partial restoration before ill-health prevented completion and we have carried out further work since buying it. The original engine was tight after several years storage and it was replaced with a fully reconditioned engine and gearbox (John Speed racing £2200). While this was being done, the engine bay was stripped and re-painted and a complete renovation of the front of the car carried out, to “as new” standards including removal of the front sub-frame which was powder coated, new discs, callipers, steering rack, ball joints, master cylinders and various other parts. The rest of the car is in super condition with all original panels including the sills. The interior is in remarkable original condition with just a little wear to the original carpets.
As you would expect, this excellent 1100 drives just as well as it looks. It is not a concourse car, there is the odd minor imperfection but it is very good in all areas. Early 1100’s are quite rare now, better built than the later cars and in our opinion, much nicer to drive.
