In 1983 the car was purchased as a Silver Wedding Anniversary present and registered to the building company where the husband and wife were both directors. It was registered at the time on the number plate MMS4. During this time it was kept in a heated double garage, and apparently in 34 years of ownership the hardtop was only removed three times! It was only driven by the wife, usually to the golf club once a week, a round trip of some 10 miles. In both 2010 and 2016 it was SORNed and not used.
In 2017 the car changed ownership, with the present owners taking over the stewardship of the car, including a significant amount of work undertaken here at SLSHOP.
A lovely opportunity to acquire an early style R107 SL, with the characteristic exhaust note and the free flowing engine. These early R107s feel distinctly different to later cars, harking back to the driving experience of the great Mercedes of the earlier 70s and 60s. The howl of a V8 engine is more raucous and unrefined in an early car, whilst feeling light on it’s feet and as nimble as a big SL can.
This car has been known to SLSHOP for some years and benefits from significant recent expenditure. Eagle eyed readers will have noticed the shade of Anthracite Grey Metallic, a striking colour that we only wish appeared more in our showroom. Rare to find in a marketplace that’s dominated by blues and reds. Not a car to be missed.
