HERE is a 1962 P5 Rover series 1A in a delightfully period light pastel green. She is the straight-six 3-litre version and the only notable difference between the Series 1 and the 1A (to the best of my knowledge) is the introduction of quarter-light windows.
She is the most gracious of movers on the road, benefitting from both power steering and the addition of overdrive to her auto box with column change. These factory options were not available on the Series 1 (1959 - 1962) and were offered with the Series 1A which was produced for one year only between 1962-63. Her interior has just about the right level of patina to the leather while the excellent dashboard displays very early-style P5 clocks.
She appears to be really good underneath and has retained her four original jacking points. This Rover idles superbly and indeed you can hardly hear the engine. Some small areas might benefit from some cosmetic improvement but I don't think any of them really detract from the beauty and grace of this early P5. I have priced her extremely fairly, taking into account a few bits and pieces here and there. A true bargain in my opinion. If you can find a better example of a Series 1A with power steering and overdrive for my sort of money, then please let me know and I will try and buy it before you do!
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 60-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
I have now been established as a one-man band classic car dealer for 20 years and pride myself on my buying prowess and - due to small margins - my prices which I firmly believe are up there among the very best in the UK classic car marketplace.
