The first vehicle with the name Land Rover was inspired by the Jeeps used by the Americans during the Second World War.
The basic feature, since the first model launched in Amsterdam on 30 April 1948, has been the four-wheel drive that allows these vehicles to tackle even very rough terrain and heavy use in various sectors.
The result is that of a family of vehicles that have made the world history of off-road cars, and which in the early 1970s exceeded one million vehicles built and intended for civil and military use.
Since 1975, the year of the nationalization of British Leyland, which had acquired the Rover brand in 1967, the name of this legendary British 4 × 4 also became that of an autonomous car manufacturer, the Land Rover.
Over the last few decades, Land Rover has been produced in various series, initially distinguished by the suffix "SERIES" and subsequently by the wheelbase measurement expressed in inches.
The Defender was marketed starting from 1990 and its name derives from the wide use of the vehicle in the military and defense fields.
