WELL, this old girl emerged from darkness for the first time in God knows how many years last week and yesterday she found her way to me. Nice of her I thought. She is a 1957 swb Landie with the correct 2 litre petrol engine. I can't tell you how long ago it is since she was locked away.
There is an old 1960s style log book (V5) with her and an old style MoT certificate from 1978 revealing that she had covered just 5, 332 miles during her first 21 years! Today she has 6900 on the clock.
I know a lot of you are going to ask me about condition. Obviously. So I will tell you what I can. Overall, surprisingly strong. It looks to me like she has never seen repairs in the past. Today however she has one chassis area, beneath the passenger door where an outrigger comes out from the main rail. That has come away there and I show the picture. The remainder of the underside is good. Also the panel in front of the screen where those air vents are is shot. Other than that, she is actually not bad at all.
Not really my cup of tea. She was actually running before she arrived but the throttle was sticking and so I am leaving well alone now.
I am sure some Series 1 person will be up for a bit of work. She seems to be pretty user friendly and deserves a loving home. I kind of feel sorry for the old thing. Can't really tell you much more than that. Will assist with delivery.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 65-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
I have now been established as a one-man band classic car dealer for 20 years and pride myself on my buying prowess and - due to small margins - my prices which I firmly believe are up there among the very best in the UK classic car marketplace. Martin. the details below.
