Description
Homage to the 3-time world champion with the number 21
To mark the 20th anniversary of Troy Bayliss' first World Superbike Championship, Ducati has produced a special edition of the Panigale V2 and will be selling it from October.
It's been 20 years since Troy Bayliss' first World Superbike Championship, with more to follow in 2006 and 2008. Fun fact: Bayliss is the only rider ever to win races in Superbike and MotoGP in the same season. In 2006, he represented Sete Gibernau for one race and took a start-finish victory. As a tribute to Troy Bayliss, Ducati is producing a special edition of the Panigale V2.
The Panigale V2 is christened Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary and is visually distinguished by its special paintwork, the design of which is inspired by the 996 R from the 2001 victory. Bayliss' autograph is painted on the tank, while the name of the bike and the numbering of the edition are engraved on the milled triple clamp. The Duc is powered by the 955 cubic centimetre Superquadro twin cylinder. It produces 155 hp at 10, 750 rpm and a maximum torque of 104 Nm at 9, 000 rpm.
Better chassis
Ducati uses suspension components from Öhlins on the Bayliss. A NIX30 cartridge fork guides the front, while a TTX36 shock absorber damps and springs in the single-sided swingarm. On top of that, Ducati adds an adjustable steering damper, also from Öhlins. The brake system gets a small update with a self-venting brake pump from Brembo.
Slightly lighter
Compared to the standard version, the Bayliss Panigale loses three kilograms and now weighs 197 kilograms fully fuelled. Ducati achieves this by using a lithium-ion battery and configuring the bike as a single-seater. The equipment is completed by the sports grips, the carbon fibre and titanium exhaust cover and an embroidered leather seat cushion.
Shock absorber, steering damper, new brake pump and a few goodies from the Ducati shop are a good deal. For free, there's also a pretty chic paint job and the privilege of being able to explain to everyone at the meeting who Troy Bayliss actually is: 20 years is a whole generation of motorcyclists.
