History of this car

The PRA report on file shows our Alfa Romeo as being first registered in Milan in 1968 to a lady owner who would keep the car until 2013 selling to another lady buyer who sold it again in 2015. We bought the car from this third owner and imported it into the UK in September 2015 quickly finding a lucky new custodian here who sold the car back to us recently.

Dealer ownership apart, this is therefore a genuine 4 owner from new vehicle which remains substantially unrestored and in very good clean condition, fitted with a matching number engine.

Our car is finished in one of the most stylish colours for this model, Rosso Amaranto, over a black interior.

This GT Junior has covered a low recorded mileage of just 94, 000 klms (58, 000 miles), with some 14, 000 of those klms having been added since we imported it in 2015, so our car has been used and enjoyed, participating in a good few events, including winning “best presented car” at Shelsley Walsh in 2018.

Body

This Bertone has a very straight body with particularly good door panel gaps, often a weakness of this model on restored cars, ditto the sill profile is correct.

The good news continues underneath with a rock solid chassis, all the usual trouble spots on these cars you can see are without corrosion or repair. Rare indeed!

The paintwork when we bought the car was an older repainting dating from the 1990s. Today this has held up very well with minor sinkage in a few places but no blisters or scratches.

The bright work is generally very good; the glass is undamaged as are the lenses and the door handles are recent replacements.

Mechanics

Since importation to the UK a lot of money has been spent on this Alfa including install of a Classic Alfa handling kit with Bilstein shock absorbers, Super-Flex suspension bushes, new brake hoses, pads and calipers, new track rods and alignment, rebuilt carbs, new battery with cut-out, ignition overhaul, exhaust replacement and much regular servicing.

The engine doesn’t smoke and has factory oil pressure. The gearbox is sweet and the car drives well. The engine room presents very smartly with all the right finishes throughout.

Advisory free MOT until May 2023.

Interior

Our car features the desirable later twin binnacle fascia. The cabin presents very well with crisp gauges, good carpets (protective over carpets fitted) and an uncracked OE steering wheel (now rare).

As part of the sales preparation, we have rebuilt the front seats and fitted new OE type seat covers front and back, so the upholstery is perfect.

Seat belts, a functioning period Grundig radio and a Bloster anti theft steering wheel lock are fitted; the dash top has a few small cracks common to this model.

Boot

Tidy throughout with spare wheel and original jack in place.

Summary

With so many of these Scalino Alfas made into clone GTAs it is rare to find an ungot at example such as this one. This is a good straight GT Junior which is structurally excellent and ready to go, representing value compared to others on the market advertised for up to £60, 000.

Supplied with a good history file and English text owner’s manual.
