We are delighted to offer this visually accurate replica of Jaguars legendary 1930’s sports two-seater, the SS100.
Regarded as one of the rarest and most elegant of pre-war designs, the SS100 was titled to reflect its ability to reach 100mph and the models combination of style and performance would set the course for Jaguars future success.
With a total of just 314 original examples produced between 1936 and 1939, like its later C and D-Type siblings, values of these original cars have continued to rise steadily and remain beyond the reach of many enthusiasts.
It was in order to meet demand for this iconic model, that a number of boutique manufacturers set about producing detailed replicas of this most thoroughbred sports car. Of these, the SS100 produced by Suffolk Sports Cars was widely considered as having set the benchmark for others to follow.
Utilising an original SS100 to ensure exact and correct dimensions for the MIG-welded ladder frame chassis were achieved, GRP moulds were taken from the original car to ensure that scale and tolerances were as accurate and close to the original as possible.
This particular example was built in-house by the team at Suffolk and is testimony to the quality achieved by their highly skilled workforce.
With the beautifully louvered alloy bonnet housing a rebuilt 4. 2 Litre XK engine with twin SU’s originally from a 1971 XJ6, the car is correctly registered as an historic vehicle having successfully passed the IVA inspection. This also qualifies this SS100 for potential export with the benefit of it being accepted by Jaguar car clubs throughout the world.
The advantages of more modern Jaguar mechanicals include the 5-speed transmission together with independent suspension and disc brakes which have been cleverly disguised to appear as the drum brakes used for the original. These improvements all undoubtedly help to make this car more useable and suited to touring. Further enhancements include chrome grilles to the headlamps, a four-spoke original-style steering wheel, aero screens and a fold-flat windscreen with wind deflectors. In addition to the side screens and a fully fitted mohair wet-weather hood, a mohair tonneau cover and additional mohair hood cover are supplied.
Tastefully specified by a prominent car collector based in the UK, it is obvious that great care was taken when this car was originally painted as it presents in excellent condition throughout. The immaculately finished British Racing Green paintwork is matched with Connolly green leather seats and leather edged Green Wilton carpets. The 18? 72 spoke alloy wheels have been painted in black and shod with Blockley performance tyres to further enhance the visual appearance and finish of this SS100.
With just three owners in total and having completed less than 4, 000 miles, a complete history file which includes the original Suffolk build schedule accompanies this wonderful example which drives equally as well as it looks.
