This attractive TR7 convertible has been off the road for a few years following an export and return to Ireland in the early 2010s. It’s a runner. But it will definitely need some work to get it back on the road…
First, the good bits: lovely, complete interior with undamaged seats in a striking off-white with blue piping. Door cards to match. Dash, centre console etc. all in great condition and totally original save for an aftermarket radio. Convertible hood is in decent nick and goes up and down without problem and secures snuggly. Electrics seem largely OK…the headlamps go up, switch on, and go down again! The engine starts and ticks over sweetly. There are no strange noises, smokiness or dropping of fluids (although the radiator seems to have a pin prick somewhere). The top-half of the car’s body work, including the doors, is in generally decent condition…
…but, the not so good bits include some quite serious corrosion to the lower-half of the car. This mainly presents in the floors: front and rear floor sections on both driver and passenger sides are badly gone and will need replacing. Sills will also require some work. Rear bulkhead seems ok and boot area is dry and sound. Front bulkhead generally seems alright but may need localised attention but there’s no sign of anything worrying around the windscreen surround. Suspension turrets are just about OK but things are a bit crusty around the bonnet hinges and the lower front valance is poor.
Other than the metal work, the brakes will need a refresh as will the clutch. As already stated, the engine, ignition system, fuel system and exhaust all appear in decent shape.
With parts and panels readily available at keen prices this is a very achievable project. With a bit of patience and TLC this could be a fantastic and fun roadster ready for next summer. And with the prices of these convertible Wedges on the rise it could also be a solid investment in more ways than one.
Comes with newly issued V5 log book (dated after return from Ireland) and some assorted receipts and MOT history.
