PHOTOS ON WAY LATER TODAY..
This is a 1957 Austin A95 Westminster, a rare surviving example of that BMC luxury cruiser with the superb 2600cc straight-six engine. I have had a couple of these during the past few years - they are not particularly easy to find - and one especially was a shining example and worth around £9, 000 all day long. Therefore, when you note the price of this old girl, please don't expect a Condition One A95. At a really low price of £3495 you would struggle to get a Morris Minor or Austin A30 in decent nick, so please keep everything in context before getting carried away.
If you don't mind a bit of a cosmetically challenged body (we are talking cars here by the way!), then this will be a classic for you. If you want your antique motor cars to look like they have just left the showroom for the first time, then be prepared to give this old girl a quality re-spray or else - put quite simply - look elsewhere.
I feel sorry for her. A delightful model like this with that superb engine. But look at her a little closer and you begin to realise that this is a genuine bargain on offer here. She is a strong car, that is to say good solid metal panels and a sound underside. Her contrasting red leather interior is not bad at all although the seat bases appear to have sagged somewhat. I have driven her around the yard in all gears and she appears to be fine. Engine sounds sweet and shows good oil pressure. This is a make and model that was built with really strong metal. It certainly isn't going to fall apart any time soon!
This is what "old cars" used to look like in the 60s and 70s when they were forgotten models, pushed to one side and often ridiculed for being out of fashion; out of style. Many of them were lost to the banger racing circuit of course and some hung on as cheap cars for those whose budget probably stretched to around £200. The classic car market was yet to be born. Old BMC models, Vauxhalls and Fords etc were shrugged off as being "old bangers." This Westminster could well have looked like this as long ago as 1967 when it would have been ten-years-old. So be kind to it. Some would be happy to run around in her as she in warts and all. Others, with a few quid to lavish on the old girl, would opt for a proper paint job. Good, that would re-generate this fine old 50s classic. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
Please don't offer me any less than my asking price. This is what you pay. I really do hope she finds a loving home.
My classic cars are motoring antiques. Please do not confuse them with your one-year-old Range Rover. This car, for example, is 65-years-old and so will have quirks and faults in there somewhere. These are not always apparent when buying and selling classics which is what I do. I do not restore them, nor do I pretend that they are concours cars. The majority of them go out as they came in, and I continue to enjoy finding more - a skill which is becoming increasingly difficult as many of you will be aware. They deserve to be taken on as "family pets" and cared for through thick and then. They don't make them any more and demand now out-strips supply. Please bear all this in mind, and enjoy your classic car. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote.
I have now been established as a one-man band classic car dealer for 20 years and pride myself on my buying prowess and - due to small margins - my prices which I firmly believe are up there among the very best in the UK classic car marketplace.
Thanks, Martin. the details below.
