Model Year – 1969
The 1969 model year marks the first major shake-up of the Porsche 911 range. The popular 2. 0 litre “short wheelbase” cars had their wheelbase lengthened by 57mm, while the model designations were changed to T, E and S. Porsche stated the change in wheelbase would result in increased driving comfort and more stable driving dynamics. 1969 also saw the last production year of the rev-happy 2. 0 engines, albeit with fuel injection making its first appearance on the E and S models.
This particular 1969 911E Targa is an extremely early production example, with completion date of October 1968. According to the CoA, it started life in Mannheim, Germany. Early documents contained in the extensive history folder indicate the second owner purchased the car from his friend in Los Angeles in 1971. The current owner speculates that the car may have originally sold to US military service personnel stationed in Germany before being shipped to the USA. Documents indicate the car arrived in the UK via Nick Fauer in 1996, before being sold into long term ownership.
The current owner purchased the car in 2015, taking advantage of the previous owners expenditure! Receipts and other documents indicate approximately £44000 was spent between 2006 and 2010 at recognised marque specialists such as Unit11, RS-911 and Southbound. Photographs and invoices detail interior works, body work including a bare metal respray as well as countless individual items such as wheel refurbishment and brightwork restoration to name a few. More recently, in preparation for sale, new Michelin WXW tyres have been fitted along with new rear shocks and an oil and filter change. The car presents very well as can be seen in the photos! The interior currently houses a pair of aftermarket sport seats, these can be exchanged for Recaro Sport seats freshly trimmed in leather with houndstooth centres at an additional fee.
On the road, it’s clear to see that a lot of time and money has been invested in this Targa. The engine (rebuilt and increased in displacement to 2. 2l) fires up on the button and pulls well through the rebuilt 5 speed gearbox. Steering feels direct and precise, providing ample feedback allowing for a fun, top off drive along some winding b-roads. We anticipate a lot of interest in this beautiful Targa, so please contact us to arrange a viewing.
