Triumph Herald – Rare Early Car/ Magazine Featured
The Triumph Herald was launched in 1959 and, like the Spitfire, was designed by Giovanni Michelotti. The car was an instant success with stunning styling, willing 948cc engine, excellent manoeuvrability and, for the day, high levels of comfort in a small family car.
Milestones are delighted to offer this magazine featured very early Triumph Herald saloon for the third time – we always buy our cars back. The Heritage Certificate indicates that the car was originally destined for Thailand and registered by the factory in Coventry on 9th May 1960 (still retains original Coventry plate) under the UK Home Delivery Export Scheme to a Mr D. R. A. Spankie. The car is finished in the original colour scheme of Lichfield Green/ Sebring White with Grey (vynide) interior – a very period combination
The bodywork, paint and chrome all present well (pictures of restoration) with a lovely patina and the interior is very original right down to the extremely rare early fibre dashboard, period radio and delicate switchgear that pre-dates the later wooden offering. Mechanically the car has been loved – there is a written summary of all work undertaken between 1996/ 2018 that includes an engine rebuild in 1996 and a de-coke/ head skimmed in 2014 and at least one service every year!
On the road the car is a delight to drive. The large history file indicates just seven previous owners and contains the original logbook with Standard Triumph stamp, old MOT’s, invoices, handbooks, Heritage Certificate, magazine feature etc.
The early Heralds are so easy to live with and have a super strong following.
Straight forward engineering, separate chassis, fully opening bonnet, light steering, sharp Michelotti design with large doors, charming interior – the car shouts 1960’s.
The Herald is Ideal starter classic for classic car shows, weekends away or simply a run out to the local pub – she positively drips charm and will provide lots of pleasure to the lucky new custodian.
