The Appeal
The TR5 is known as a ‘Goldilocks’ car for simple reasons - it is the sweet spot in the TR lineage, blending the classic, sharp-suited Michelotti looks of earlier generations with the torquey 2.5L straight six of the later Karmann cars. The TR250 takes things a step further, eschewing the complex fuel injection in favour of a more traditional carburettor set-up. Built for just 15 months between 1967 and 1968, it is rare too - just 8,400 were built, all bound for the USA.
This pretty Jasmine Yellow TR250 is likely one of the last built, a 1968 car that retains its correct badging and nose stripe and has had just four keepers in its 58 years. Its current enthusiast keeper acquired it in 2014 and has looked after it well, as you can see in the photos, including always dry storing it in a garage. It has been used for various classic car rallies and features thoughtful additions like mechanical Aifab cruise control and a new Kenwood audio system. The soft top is reported to be watertight, and a tonneau cover is also included.
The car is a characterful mix of originality and refurbishment and is said to run and drive very well. Recent work includes a new clutch master cylinder, electrical repairs, and carburettor servicing. It comes with a useful Controle Technique valid to June 2030.
