1947 Standard Eight Tourer For Sale

A charming little Standard 8 Tourer.

The Flying Eight was launched in October 1938 with a very up to date specification which included independent front suspension via transverse leaf, a four speed synchromesh gearbox, Bendix brakes and an aluminium cylinder head. The model was continued post-war (dropping the ‘Flying’ appellation) until Standard adopted a one model policy with the Vanguard in 1948. This example was built in 1947, towards the end of the model’s production life.

An older restoration, the Standard still presents well. There are inevitably some blemishes and the offside rear wing would benefit from repainting. The blue interior appears to be original with evidence of the occasional repair and is delightfully patinated. The grey carpets are relatively recent and are in excellent condition.

The double duck hood is in reasonable condition with just a couple of minor repairs and there is a set of sidescreens tucked behind the rear seat where there is also a complete set of service equipment including jack, starting handle, tyre pump and grease gun.

There are a couple of sensible additions to the car, namely an electric fan and an SU electric fuel pump to assist with starting.

The Standard comes with an impressive file which includes ownership history, bills, old MoTs, workshop manuals and an article from Popular Classics magazine which features this actual car.

Under the bonnet all is clean and tidy. A new carburettor has recently been fitted.

Very spacious inside for a small car. Easily accommodates a 6 foot plus driver.

The car starts and runs nicely showing good oil pressure and charge from the dynamo. The fuel gauge works too. Semaphore trafficators are fitted which are in working order.

There are some useful new spares with the car including a complete set of brakes shoes, steering box worm and ignition parts.

We sold the car to its last keeper and has become available again as the owner is pursuing a new project.

We shall be happy to consider a classic car or motorcycle in part exchange.
