1928 Rolls Royce 20hp Thrupp & Maberly 7 seat Limousine.

This lovely example dates from 1928 and has limousine coachwork by Thrupp & Maberly with the side to side sliding glass division and occasional seats making it a full 7 seat car. It is in completely original condition to the interior upholstery and realistically it is just as it was when it left the factory with the exception of the front seats that have had new leather & underfoot carpets. The car is in close to concours condition & has a good chance of winning prizes if shown at a concours.
The interior contains a wealth of period features with net racks to the front roof interior & rope hat racks to the rear roof interior. Superb brocade hanging handles are found to help passengers out when alighting from the car. A full set of interior blinds are also in situ & operable. Twin occasional seats fold out of the Bulkhead. A copy of the London times dated June 1928 also comes with the car.
Lovely details abound on the car. It was for example ordered with optional bonnet locks when new. Pleasingly the car comes with its twin original scroll pattern keys for both the ignition & bonnet locks. The original keys for the exterior door locks & underseat tool tray are also with the car. Speaking of tools, the full set of small tools for the car are located in three slide out trays under the drivers seat. A spare wheel is fitted to the rear in a slot in bracket as suggested specifiction by Sir Henry himself.
It was bought over 40 years ago by the previous but one owner from the grandfather of the present proprietor of H. Horsfield & Son. It is for sale now by the current owner of 22 years whom has cherished in in excellent condition throughout and comes with its original registration number - GC 6631. Indicated mileage is 94, 493.
It is a lovely unmolested example of this great car - just as we like them. It is always a pleasure to get one of these with such a wealth or original detail to it. The Paint is maroon over black & is immaculate having been respayed a few years ago at vast exppense to a very high standard. At the same time a new beveled oval rear window glass was fabricated & fitted to replce the cracked original item. The car started life with horizontal radiator shutters, but in 1929 the factory records show that the original radiator was substituted for one of the new fangled vertical shutter versions by the factory, no doubt with a nod to keeping a modern appearance.
We collected this car in Northern Ireland & drove it back to our showroom via Dublin & Holyhead. It did not miss a beat on the journey running cool & showing 20lbs of oil pressure. Indeed it ran so cool that I closed the shutters just a little to keep the car at an optimum operating temperature.
Simply put this is an exceptional 20hp in exceptional condition & is a credit to its last long term owner who has cherished it along with other lesser cars in his collection. He undertook an engine rebuild over a decade ago & was also responsible for the high quality paint job done to the car. The owners advancing years now mean it is time for the car to move to its next lucky custodian.
