This is a rather special Airhead BMW, and one I was delighted to stumble across.
The bike was initially registered to its first owner in Canada, in 1985, and on his return to the UK brought it with him. He sold it to a friend in the late 80’s, and I’ve just acquired it from him. This last owner of 30 or so years had decided that it was time to hang up his spurs, having covered increasingly few miles in recent years.
Make no mistake, this almost 40 year old Airhead is COMPLETELY un molested, and totally original. She’s showing 24k kilometres (or around 15k miles) and it’s hard to imagine that there’s a more original R80 out there. It’s also unusual to see these in “naked” form, without the RT fairing, which are much more manageable for day to day riding.
It goes without saying that the bike obviously runs like a watch, and is complete with original handbook, factory tool roll, first aid kit, etc. There’s even the original bill of sale in the folder, documenting the genuine BMW accessories, including screen, crash bars, panniers(complete with factory liners) and factory tank bag.
Soon to be Classic status, and in this condition with excellent provenance, surely one for the discerning BMW collector.
