Due to redundancy and a change in my plans, I'm putting this BMW R80 RT up for sale.
This 1987 R80 RT Monolever underwent a complete restoration in 2020, carried out without compromise by a recognised specialist in classic BMWs. The aim was not to transform or customise it, but to restore it to the appearance, performance and reliability it had when it left the factory.
Virtually all engine and chassis components have been replaced with new BMW parts or fully reconditioned units. I have a photographic record of approximately 150 images documenting the entire restoration, which will naturally be handed over to the new owner.
The bike is strictly faithful to its original specification. It's equipped with electronic ignition and runs on unleaded fuel, as was the case with models of this generation.
Since its restoration, it has covered approximately 7, 000 km. It has already been fully serviced by the same specialist who rebuilt it. The engine is now freed up after its running-in period and operates with all the smoothness and character that BMW flat-twins are renowned for.
The odometer reads 37, 000 km.
It comes with a classic vehicle registration document and a clean MOT certificate, which will be renewed for the sale.
The bike's condition is exceptional. The photographs struggle to do justice to its presentation; it's considerably more beautiful in person.
This bike was not restored with resale in mind but to be kept. Its sale is solely due to a change of plans and the fact that I own other bikes and need to free up some garage space.
Those familiar with BMWs of this generation will appreciate the level of restoration work carried out. Those simply browsing or looking to negotiate may find cheaper examples; however, it will be difficult to find one restored with the same care and attention.
