The Mini was launched in August 1959, with just two variants, Austin “Seven” and Morris “Mini-Minor”. Cars built in 1959 and 1960 have various early and now desirable features including the famous wand gear-stick and floor starter button and have become the most valuable.
This car is an Austin Seven Mini saloon in its original colour of Farina Grey with a blue and grey interior. It was first 12th May 1960, just nine months into Mini production. As you can see from the photos it is in outstanding condition. It had bare shell re-paint a few years ago and the floors and in ner arches are in body colour over a light stone-chip coating. Although some panels were replaced, remarkably, the sills and floors are original with the original numbered plate still present in the driver’s foot-well and the original jacking points in the sill panels.
The mileage reading is 52, 000 which may well be correct but there is not enough history for us to guarantee this and the V5 shows just two previous owners from new.
We have just carried out some re-commissioning including an oil and filter change and a few test miles, it’s running and driving sweetly and ready to use. The interior is in original condition other than a new carpet set, the old one is with the car, as are the original number plates.
1959 and 1960 Minis are clearly rare and there are now cars in the market at £25k and more – this one is not quite concours but it is excellent and will be preferable to many because of its high level of originality.
