A complete and original RHD, high spec E9 in ‘Nachtblau’ with only one previous owner and genuine 41, 720 miles from new. In fact, the present engine (fitted in April 1979) has only done 9, 941 miles. I have owned the car since 1986 and have a substantial history file including all original dealer supplied documents, invoices and photos of restoration work. It is a very early CS model on carbs but (unlike most) with the benefit of a manual 4 speed gearbox, power steering, heated rear window and dealer supplied seat belts. It is believed that the first owner saw the model at the Frankfurt Motor Show and ordered one immediately on his return, from the local BMW Dealer (Sytners) in Nottingham. Even the ‘running in’ instructions are still on the windscreen. It starts ‘on the key’ and has had the entire brake system rebuilt, including both servos and master cylinder. All pipes and hoses have been changed for new.
All the difficult (bulkhead) bodywork repairs have been finished and both front wings now replaced. She has had new sills fitted and the lower / rear panels (in primer) are presently screwed in place to fix position before spot welding to the shell. Panel gaps and door shut are excellent. I have all the new panels to complete the low/ rear wing area but I have been unable to finish this work due to substantial injuries sustained towards the end of 2022. This also contributed to the closure of our business specializing in the restoration of ‘Frogeye’ Sprites.
ALL other components not shown in the photos were only removed to keep them safe during the restoration process and are safely dry stored in my loft (further photos available on request) including a complete / original tool kit. The original seats, carpets and trim panels are pretty much ‘as new’. All smaller components have been bagged and labelled as they were removed. All the original factory parts and panels that have been replaced, have also been kept as references. My own workshop notes run into two A4 writing pads. Front and rear bumpers will need re-plating and at least one section of the rear bumpers need replacing.
