NOW RESERVED FOR NEW OWNER

Motodrome are pleased to offer this interesting alterative to a classic Land Rover ? a 1956 GAZ 69

The GAZ 69 was built by the Soviet Union at a time when they were notorious for reverse-engineering western technology, and in this case the venerable Willys Jeep was used as a mechanical basis. As with the Jeep, it has proper 4-wheel drive, simple 4-cylinder Willys ?go-devil?- based petrol engine, 3-speed gearbox, and leaf spring suspension. It?s basically a slightly more comfortable and roomy version of the Willys MB.

All the Soviet-bloc military used them as general service vehicles, but also converted them into tank destroyers etc.

This one was used in the DDR by the Nationale Volksarmee Landstreitkrafte (land forces) as a radio car between 1975 and 1989, according to the service records that come with it.

It was used as a radio car and, although the radio gear is no longer present, it still has 3 external aerial mounts, rear cable locker and aerial side storage

It was imported into the UK in 1995 and restored in 2001, and presents really well. The last owner has had it since 2011 and reports it has been totally reliable in his 12-year ownership. Prior to that it was owned for 10 years by an action vehicle film supplier and it?s credits include one of the X-men films.

The photos show it both fully stripped for the summer, with the screen up, and with the weather equipment installed, and the hood is apparently pretty new, as are all the tyres.

Odometer reading 56000 kms

It is, of course RFL, MOT and ULEZ exempt, and is rather lovely in my opinion. As I?ve said, it makes an excellent value for money alternative to a classic Land Rover or Jeep for trips to the pub, shows, or just pottering about. I can attest to it?s curiosity value following a sunny drive to the pub.

On our own website, you?ll find a comprehensive walkaround video. We didn?t do a driving video as we couldn?t find anywhere to effectively mount the camera, but I can confirm it drives just as it should. As you?d expect, it?s no sports car, but it feels unbreakable and that it could cross any terrain.

It's just emerged from our workshop, having had a total (and very expensive) rebuild of the entire braking system, and is ready to go.
