Introducing Monty, a beautifully restored and converted 1981 Series 3 Land Rover Military Ambulance.
Monty courageously served his country on location in the Falklands War as an RAF Ambulance and was so named by the crew that served under him, he has now retired.
His new role was to become a bespoke off road/ off grid adventure campervan that sleeps up to 4 adults comfortably.
The exterior retains a lovely original patina, with lots of unique features to the military Ambulance of that era.
Showing only 26, 000 (deemed original) miles on the clock it was rock solid and mechanically sound but additional improvements were made to make Monty more drivable with additional power and generally a more comfortable drive. All done to a high standard and sitting on the solid 1Ton chassis.
Engine was upgraded to the strongest engine a 1992 200Tdi of low miles @135, 000miles. The 200Tdi produces 111BHP in standard form over the 74bhp of the 2. 1/ 4 petrol. This may sound like a small increase but with all things diesel more BHP is a lot more power than the petrol and a load more torque, allowing for an effortless drive both on the road and climbing any hill as well as improved mpg.
Boost pin for more power and better torque curve was installed.
Large front mounted intercooler.
New radiator and electric cooling fan.
The engine before insulation was extensively refreshed, timing belt kit, LUK clutch kit, serviced various gaskets and pipework etc.
Power steering conversion using professional kit and P38 steering box.
New drag link steering arms and track rod ends. This set up gives the best drivers feel with 2. 1/ 4 turns lock to lock and reduced steering wander.
All wiring as MOD vehicle was reduced and tidied.
The dash was reworked to now use 12V system and new speedo in MPH.
The fuel system was replaced with new fuel tank, level sender, external filler cap and fuel lines.
Brakes were all stripped cleaned, and any worn parts replaced.
Camper conversion:
Interior was stripped and fully insulated, and sound deadened front and rear.
Driving cockpit was sound deadened and had luxury fitted carpet set.
New seats, insulated front doors, upgraded door cards and new 3-point seat belts for safety.
Reverse camera with night vision.
The habitation area was professionally converted by VANtage Customs based in Frome, Somerset.
Featuring: - Innovative bespoke interior maximizing space, sleeping area, internal storage and comfort.
Full new Pop-Up roof installed giving extra standing room and sleeping area, which boasts a double bed with cushioned bed inserts.
Furthermore, the dinning/ living area that comfortably seats 4 adults around the table also folds down incorporating the front seats to make a large double bed.
Full hot and cold-water sink, Fridge, induction Electric hob, fold down kitchen workspace for inside cooking or outside use as mounted to folding rear doors,
Hot air blow central heating.
Multiple Storage areas within counter tops and throughout the rear area.
All the interior has had newly trim upholstered cushions.
The rear windows are tinted, which also side open with black out blinds.
Electrically: - The camper area has had the top of the range Victron electrical off grid system. Two 200amp lithium batteries, split charged from vehicle during driving and also fed from solar panels on the roof and 240volt hook up and all of which can be monitored with the use of a phone App.
Throughout the cabin there are multiple USB charging points and low amperage led lighting both spotlights and flexible reading lights.

This conversion had been done to the highest level, with quality materials used and so much thought and practicality, making it truly a one of a kind and completely unique.
