Porsche attracted considerable attention when they unveiled the groundbreaking 911 Targa at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September 1965. This particular car threw all traditional categories overboard - it was not just a convertible, coupe, hardtop or sedan. Instead, it introduced the concept of a safe convertible with a fixed roll bar. The name "Targa" was a nod to Porsche's impressive racing history, especially the Targa Florio road race in Sicily, where they shone since the mid-1950s. This top car was itself equipped with the extremely rare and correctly stamped Mahle gas burner rims cost a fortune and are practically untraceable today. These Mahle rims were made of magnesium and were the lightest rims you could have your sporty 911 and certainly did the handling good.
