Description

The most attractive cars are always the specialities and rarities. Do you know the McLaren F1, the three-seater legend for which 21 million was paid at its peak? Whether in dollars or euros no longer matters. The car may be prohibitively expensive, but you can also have the basic engine in this BMW 850 CSI. Because BMW M also installed the legendary S70B56 engine in this top model of the E31 series. M GmbH had brought the 12-cylinder naturally aspirated engine to a displacement of 5. 6 litres and 380 hp. Modified timing, increased compression and lightweight pistons were the main differences between the S70 and the M70, which powered the 750i and 850i with 300 hp. The engine and rear axle gearbox were fitted with an oil cooler, and the driver was given six gears to shift himself. This is important, because the manual gearbox is the link between man and machine; this link is missing in an automatic or PDK transmission. Then there is the EML switch in the centre console, which is preferably set to S: The accelerator pedal then responds more spontaneously with a steeper characteristic curve. The electronic engine performance control (EML) also limits the engine speed depending on the gear engaged and regulates the idling speed adaptively. The 850 CSI was the most powerful model in the E31 series presented in 1989. It appeared in 1992 and remained rare: BMW M built 1, 510 units. This may also have been due to the price: the CSi coupé cost 180, 000 marks in basic configuration. But the 850 CSi accelerated to 100 km/ h in six seconds - 32 years ago, mind you. Even a Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S accelerated only a tenth of a second faster. If the exterior of the BMW 850CSi was too plain for you, BMW tuner and tuner AC-Schnitzer offered a fabulous equipment package called S8: the suspension was lowered by 25 mm at the front and 10 mm at the rear thanks to a new set of springs. Three-piece 18-inch racing rims, which are so wide that even the new AC Schnitzer front and rear bumpers struggle to cover the suitcase-width Dunlop tyres. The side skirts have real air intakes which provide additional cooling air to the rear brakes. The exterior mirrors are now aerodynamically optimised sports mirrors made of Kevlar, and the sound of the stainless steel exhaust system with enlarged cross-section and 4 tailpipes makes you believe every one of the 380 hp even when idling. Large BMW M brakes ensure good deceleration, after all braking is the same as accelerating - only the other way round. The visual appearance of the Schnitzer S8 is so impressive that you believe the car really needs its AC Schnitzer rear wing. In the interior there is a black/ grey full leather interior, including leather-stitched door panels, dashboard and centre console. AC Schnitzer has designed a 7-piece fine wood interior especially for the S8, which has been colour-coordinated with the leather. The fact that the S8 remained a rare car even then due to its enormous new price did not bother AC Schnitzer. Legend has it that Schnitzer only had to prove that it had built 9 road-legal vehicles in order to homologate its S8 for the DTM racing series of the time. Here is one such rarity. The special thing here is that the Schnitzer S8 package is fitted to an 850 CSi. Most S8s have been fitted to the much more common BMW 850i and have often passed through many hands and countries. The car offered here is a German first delivery. The mileage can be traced on the basis of previous invoices and MOT reports. The original vehicle registration document is available. First registered in 1994 to a metal and plastics processing company, transferred to private ownership five years later. In 2001, the BMW was sold to an entrepreneur from Solingen, in whose household it is still at home today after being transferred to his wife. € 99, 900 (on behalf of the customer)
