This excellent value Triumph Stag was sold by a Triumph Stag specialists in 2022 and was subject of a program of re-commissioning work. MOT certificates dating back to 1986 at 32305 recorded miles show steady use throughout the late 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s and by 2022 the Stag recorded 48977 miles having covered less than 17, 000 miles in 36 years. Appearing to be a remarkably original, honest example the car was put through pre-sale preparation with the Stag specialists and the car then supplied for £16, 995.
Work in 2022 included new rear springs and shockers, five new tyres, new rear brake shoes and cylinders, new handbrake levers, new rear driveshaft gaiters, fitting a re-conditioned water pump, new inlet manifold gaskets, new high level header tank, new thermostat, cam cover gaskets, new carb diaphragms and breather pipes, new alternator belt, power steering belt and a major service. Further improvements included a new high quality soft top, new under bonnet pad, battery holder, new front wing badges, door handle gaskets and mirrors. Having had this preparation work, the Triumph was then taken to an even higher standard with over £8000 of further expenditure in late 2022. The car was upgraded with a 4 speed automatic gearbox conversion costing £4500 alone with fitting, and the engine work was undertaken to include new re-conditioned cylinder heads and all new timing chains, tensioners and guides.
Since this work VNK 545M has had very little use and it's a very strong driving example with a fit, healthy Triumph V8 engine that performs superbly with no unusual noises or rattles. The four speed gearbox is a fantastic upgrade and with re-commissioned brakes and suspension the car drives very well. The overall appearance of VNK 545M is good, it's a clean, tidy honest example with older consistent paintwork and a nicely presented interior. With a relatively new soft top and hard top, the car offers a great all round package at a sensible price. The fact the car could be improved with further detailing and perhaps some non-essential paintwork is represented in the price as this is a strong usable car that can be further improved if desired.
