INTRODUCTION
We are delighted to offer this particularly attractive Triumph Stag, finished in the distinctive and increasingly sought-after factory colour of Topaz, complemented by a lovely black interior.
This is a desirable manual overdrive example, benefiting from considerable mechanical expenditure over the years, including a fully documented engine rebuild, together with an extensive history file containing numerous invoices, MOT certificates, photographs and correspondence.
The vehicle was also subject to a bare-metal repaint many years ago by Faversham Classics, which has stood the test of time remarkably well.
We are currently undertaking some further cosmetic improvements to bring the car up to our usual presentation standards, and we expect it to look particularly lovely when completed.
BODYWORK AND EXTERIOR
The car was subject to a bare-metal repaint by Faversham Classics many years ago, with the work recorded in its historical documentation.
The Topaz paintwork has held up remarkably well considering the time that has elapsed since the restoration.
The car is currently at the bodyshop undergoing further cosmetic improvements, which will be completed before sale.
The exterior is complemented by a lovely set of 15-inch Challenger alloy wheels, which really suit the Stag and give it a subtly sportier appearance.
The chrome brightwork is in lovely condition and complements the unusual Topaz colour beautifully.
INTERIOR AND HOOD
The black interior is in lovely condition and contrasts particularly well with the Topaz exterior.
The seats, door cards and interior trim present very nicely, while the traditional dashboard and wood trim retain the classic character of the Triumph Stag.
The soft top and frame are both in very good condition.
Overall, the interior is a particularly pleasing feature of this example.
ENGINE AND MECHANICAL HISTORY
The vehicle is fitted with Triumph’s characterful 3. 0-litre V8 engine, coupled to the desirable four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive.
One of the principal attractions of this particular car is its extensive documented mechanical history.
Considerable money has been spent on the vehicle over the years, including a comprehensive engine rebuild, which is supported by invoices within the history file.
The mechanical work documented includes attention to:
* Engine rebuild and associated internal components.
* Timing chains and related components.
* Cylinder heads and valve gear.
* Oil pump and lubrication system.
* Engine bearings.
* Cooling system.
* Clutch and transmission.
* Overdrive.
* Differential.
* Suspension and steering.
* Braking system.
* General servicing and ongoing maintenance.
More recently, the vehicle has benefited from a new clutch.
Importantly, the car has covered relatively little mileage since the engine rebuild and performs and drives beautifully.
The V8 engine runs very well, while the manual gearbox with overdrive makes the Stag a particularly enjoyable classic touring car.
COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY FILE
The vehicle is accompanied by a substantial history file containing documentation dating back many years.
This includes invoices relating to mechanical repairs, servicing, restoration and general maintenance, together with previous MOT certificates and historical correspondence.
The records extend back to the early 1990s and provide an interesting insight into the care and expenditure devoted to the vehicle by its previous owners.
The history file documents the earlier body restoration undertaken by Faversham Classics, together with the extensive mechanical work carried out subsequently.
Of particular importance is the documented engine rebuild, which represents a significant part of the expenditure invested in the car.
THE CAR AFFECTIONATELY KNOWN AS “TOPAZ”
One of the most charming aspects of this particular Stag is the personal history accompanying it.
A previous owner affectionately referred to the car simply as “Topaz”, a name inspired by its distinctive factory colour.
Among the documentation is a fascinating account of a European road trip undertaken in the car, complete with photographs and details of its travels through France, including the Dordogne region.
The account, entitled “Mission of Mercy – Or Perhaps Not!!!!”, provides an entertaining record of the journey and offers a wonderful insight into the adventures enjoyed by the car and its previous custodian.
It is always particularly pleasing to find a classic car accompanied by this sort of personal history, which adds considerably to its character and provenance.
RECENT WORK AND PREPARATION
The vehicle has recently benefited from a new clutch and has passed its MOT without advisories.
It is currently undergoing further cosmetic improvements at the bodyshop, which will be completed before the car is offered for sale.
The intention is to present the vehicle in lovely condition, reflecting both its attractive appearance and the considerable mechanical expenditure invested in it over the years.
OUR SUMMARY
This is a particularly attractive Triumph Stag, finished in one of the model’s most distinctive and desirable colour combinations.
The factory Topaz paintwork, contrasting black interior, excellent chrome brightwork and attractive 15-inch Challenger alloy wheels combine to create a very appealing example.
The car also benefits from the desirable manual overdrive transmission and an extensive mechanical history, including a fully documented engine rebuild.
Having covered relatively little mileage since that work was completed, the vehicle performs and drives beautifully.
The substantial history file, together with the entertaining account of its European travels and the affectionate name “Topaz”, adds another interesting dimension to the car.
Topaz is always a colour that proves particularly popular with our customers. Whenever we have a Stag finished in this distinctive shade, it tends to attract considerable interest and sell quickly.
With its rare and desirable colour combination, extensive history and considerable mechanical expenditure, this is a lovely example of the Triumph Stag.
