Introduced in May of 1962, the monocoque MG B was a welcome progression from the body-on-frame T-Series and MG A models that preceded it. The more modern construction resulted in weight savings, reduced manufacturing costs, and notably tauter handling. Initially, the B was only available in Roadster form - the Pininfarina-penned hatchback GT derivative, with 2+2 seating, not being offered until October 1965. At launch, the model was powered by a three-bearing version of the 1798cc B-Series engine that produced 95bhp at 5, 400rpm. However, this unit was replaced by a five-bearing unit two years into production. The MkII model of 1967 brought an updated manual gearbox with revised ratios and synchromesh. By the time GT production ceased in 1980, a total of 125, 282 is said to have been produced.
First registered on the 24th October 1972, 'FOJ' presents as a 'formerly well-cared-for' MGB GT from long-term ownership and sadly it has been laid up since c. 2017 and is now in need of recommissioning. We have been advised the engine turns and it was rolling until the brakes were recently found to be seized. There is believed to be a problem with the electronic ignition which is why the distributor cap is currently off the car, however, the vendor has been unable to fix it in his ownership. It is being offered with a collection of MG Owner's Club Magazines, an instruction manual and a number of spares that include a manifold/ mid-section stainless exhaust. The vendor is in the process of applying for a Registration Document.
