This Victor 101 Deluxe Series 11 Estate was purchased by Liskeard Radio and Electric Supplies (t/ as S. J. Matthews and Sons) in October '66 from Locks Motors in the town. They used it in connection with their business, delivering electrical items.
The car stayed in and around Liskeard with owners from the business until 2009 when it was purchased by a local gentleman from the area who knew of the family and the car.
In 2015, a customer of ours purchased the Victor as it had only covered 57, 000 miles from new and had never been restored. Although slightly faded and with some small rust areas, it was wonderfully original and unmolested and the bodywork was straight and correct. As the car had been off the road for over twenty years, he set about a programme of very carefully and meticulously re-commissioning the Vauxhall.
The cooling system was attended to, the cylinder head was overhauled, all steering joints were changed where needed, the suspension components and rubbers replaced as required, a new clutch went in, the carburettor was stripped and rebuilt, and door rubbers changed. Particular attention was paid to making the engine oil tight. To make the car more usable in modern traffic, an electric engine fan was fitted (nicely hidden), as were electronic ignition and hazard indicators. There is a large file detailing this work right down to the last grommet. There are more items that were attended to, too numerous to mention.
The chromework was restored where necessary.
The Victor was treated to a bare-metal, windows out, repaint in the original colours and the small areas of body deterioration were attended to. The beautiful interior remains original except for new carpets - even the luggage area is immaculate.
Four files of invoices, documents and brochures accompany this fantastic car including the first MOT certificate from 03. 10. 1969 when the recorded mileage was 13, 769.
Victor 101s had a relatively short production run and there are few nice ones left, especially in Estate form. This car purrs and is in fabulous order throughout and comes with an interesting history.
