For many enthusiasts, the 997-generation 911 was a return to form for Porsche after the divisive 996. First introduced in 2005, Porsche was quick to introduce a plethora of variants offering increased performance and/ or luxury. For those interested in a track car they could realistically daily drive, Porsche once again offered a GT3 model (a hard-core GT3 RS was also available in limited quantities, though that car is far less livable than the "standard" GT3).
In 2009, the 997 was facelifted, with the entire range featuring updates intended to enhance the already phenomenal driving experience. For the GT3, this meant a 20hp increase to 435hp thanks to a new dual-VarioCam setup (in comparison to the previous single-VarioCam unit) along with a new track-tuned version of PSM, Porsche's traction/ stability control system. Updated styling and lighter wheels offered further set the "997. 2" GT3 apart from its predecessor. Today, these cars are considered some of the last of the "analogue" GT3s, as newer examples typically come equipped with a PDK transmission and many more electrical nannies.
