EXTERIOR
Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1994, the RS2 was a collaboration between Audi and Porsche that yielded one of the most extraordinary and unconventional supercars of the 1990s. The colour palette available for this new partnership also featured a combination of Porsche Polar Silver and RS Blue alongside Audi colours – Laser Red, Ragusa Green and in this case; Volcano Black.
Unassuming in this metallic paint the boxy silhouette of this RS2 easily flies under the radar, coming to life in natural light when the metallic flake shimmers to unveil the depth of the gorgeous finish.
Considering the age and mileage the condition of the car is superb, showing free from any major stone chips or blemishes.
INTERIOR
Electrically operated Recaro’s take centre stage here, clad in black Nappa leather that has survived very well with excellent contour and shape. Carbon fibre inlays throughout the dashboard give a nod to the performance potential on the RS2 whilst the simple layout of the centre console, gearstick and thinned rimmed steering wheel make the interior a distraction free, driver focused space.
Despite being a product of the mid 90s this Audi still comes with all the essentials including electric sunroof, air conditioning and an Alpine stereo which features a CD Player. A finer detail shows the door releases now in model specific Black Chrome.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Used and developed by Audi since the late 70s the turbocharged 5-cylinder format has become synonymous with the RS brand and rallying fans worldwide, storming to world championship success in its legendary 600 bhp fire breathing Group B guise. Co-designed with Porsche the 2. 5L unit in the RS2 is incredibly versatile and potent, using a KKK turbocharger to produce 315 bhp and 302 lb⋅ft of torque.
Paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, and Audi’s patented four wheel drive system, the end result was a truly rapid machine with a top speed of 158mph. More impressive still are the cars acceleration figures, managing 0-60 mph in 4. 8 seconds and 0-30 mph in just 1. 5, which was said to be faster than the fabled McLaren F1. With fabulous continuity throughout the car’s service life performance and handling are very impressive.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Nowhere is the collaborative work between Audi and Porsche more evident than in the wheels and tyres, with a set of 17 “Porsche Cup wheels with Audi branded centre caps fitted to each RS2 as standard. These wheels present in excellent condition, free from and curbing or fading, and wrapped in matching Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres with ample tread remaining all around.
Showing through the wide spokes the Red Porsche branded Brembo Callipers are evenly matched to the performance available, pulling the car up strongly with a minimum of fuss, whilst the Porsche designed sports suspension system sits 40mm lower than the standard Audi 80 to better manage body roll whilst still providing a sufficiently comfortable ride.
HISTORY FILE
PDI’d by Keith Garages Ltd of Aylesbury in October of 1994 this RS2 would return for servicing to the supplying dealer on 9 occasions with the car covering 56k miles by the turn of the millennium.
There are a further 12 stamps in the original service book with a combination of the main dealer and marque specialists attended to standard servicing and further remedial work. The lower suspension arm bushes, aux belts and vacuum pipes have been replaced recently prior to the last oil service which also saw work carried out to the exhaust side of the Turbo.
The history file is absolutely brimming with paperwork from day one; invoicing, MOT certificates and even a selection of tax disks ensure provenance is second to none.
