Description
On offer we have this 2001 Ducati 998 Bi Posto. The damaged example was imported from Japan by ourselves and was purchased as a project. Sadly time and other projects mean that its unlikely I will get around to starting on this one so we have decided to let her go. I have tried to detailed the damage in the attached video and also in the accompanying images but If you have any concerns I strongly recommend that you view the bike in person. The bike is supplied with its original Japanese logbook so you will only need an Mot to register on an age related plate. The engine turns over and pre accident condition was excellent. The fuel pump itself is removed so we are unable to run her up. The ecu etc is all present as you will see from the images.
Please Note: Sold, "As is", for spares or repair with no warranty implied or given.
A fantastic project, priced competitively. Would make a fantastic special or restoration!
The Ducati 998 Biposto (2001) marked the transition from the legendary 916/ 996 series to the new Testastretta engine era. It combined iconic Tamburini styling with sharper performance, producing around 123 hp at 9, 750 rpm, with a dry weight of about 198 kg and a top speed near 170 mph.
- Lineage: The 998 was the final evolution of the Ducati 916 design, succeeding the 996 and preceding the 999.
- Engine Innovation: The 2001 introduction of the Testastretta (“narrow head”) engine was revolutionary, reducing valve angles from 40° to 25° for improved combustion efficiency.
- Racing Pedigree: The Testastretta debuted in the 996R (2001), homologated for World Superbike. Troy Bayliss won the WSBK championship that year, cementing the engine’s reputation.
- Design Continuity: Retained the trellis frame and aggressive styling of the 916/ 996, but with subtle refinements for handling and reliability.

With imported vehicles we are not always able to confirm this by contacting previous owners therefore we are unable to completely verify the mileage recorded on the odometer and it must be considered incorrect in these cases.
