Description
A one-off SS100 2 ½ liter recreation by Jim Marland, built from an original 2 1/ 2 saloon, components and incorporating authentic SS100 bodywork with recent comprehensive attentions from William Haynes, HPC 939 delivers a genuine period driving experience. Using a 1938 2 1/ 2 donor for chassis, engine, axles, steering, and brakes, the car maintains mechanical coherence throughout. Original SS100 components—radiator shell, bonnet, four wings, fuel tank, headlamps, ‘owl’s eye’ tail lamps, instruments, and correct steering wheel with horn push—were rebuilt and integrated with meticulous care.
The L1177E engine has been fully rebuilt, with further works by Jaguar specialist William Heynes Ltd including cylinder-head rebuild, E5 fuel conversion, factory-correct carburettor and distributor refurbishment, suspension and brake work, and upper steering-column refurbishment. The coachwork is finished in Gunmetal Grey, complemented by leather interior and carpets matched to original materials, and complete weather equipment is supplied, including hood, side screens, tonneau, and hood bag. Discreet modern usability features include flashing indicators and a negative-earth socket, while the original dashboard and cigar lighter remain. Since returning to the road in 2015, HPC 939 has covered just over 2, 000 miles, mainly on scenic tours of Wales and the North West, offering a comfortable, reliable, and genuinely enjoyable driving experience.
HPC 939 combines visual elegance, mechanical authenticity, and the driving experience of a genuine SS100, without the immense cost or complexity of acquiring an original. Finished to exacting standards, fully rebuilt, and prepared for use, it is ready for tours, club events, and historic rallies. With provenance, careful attention to detail, and recent works completed by William Haynes Ltd, the car remains comfortable, reliable, and genuinely enjoyable to drive.
