This is a 1976, UK from new, BMW R75/ 7.
If you know your Airheads, you’ll appreciate that this is quite a rare model. Essentially, it was BMW using the last of the 750 engines from the / 6 series, in the newly introduced / 7 series.
This particular bike was supplied new by the legendary Gus Kuhn motors, with the last owner being a BMW club member, and the previous custodian having the bike for 5 years, and the original owner for over 27 years. All in all, just four previous owners in almost 50 years, always a good sign.
This one is not an award winning “trailer queen”, but just an honest, regularly used, classic old BMW, with its patina of age being proudly carried. The paintwork is the original Monza blue, and worn in places, and the original seat cover had some splits, but I’ve just replaced that with a high quality replacement. It has a stainless exhaust system, modern rear shocks, and of course those period correct Krauser racks and panniers. Upgraded to a twin disc front end. Engine oil (and filter) gearbox, shaft and bevel oils have been changed, and valve clearances adjusted. A new front tyre has also been fitted, along with a choke conversion.
Obviously now Historic status, so MOT exempt, and free road tax. All in all, a great introduction to Airhead ownership, and I’d like to think that as ever, at a price that won’t break the bank.
