MGCs are marvellous cars to own (we have had one a number of years, and love it), and this particular example has an interesting history. It was first dispatched to University Motors, the well-known MG distributor on 12 November 1969, then subsequently sold by them in December 1970 … during this period, the car was cosmetically improved, to include a change of colour to its current Black Tulip, with roof section in black vinyl and with a full length folding Webasto sunroof. We think the walnut dashboard was probably fitted at that stage, and the car came with wire wheels, heated rear window and yes – a heater! Furthermore, legend has it that only two cars to this specification were ever sold by University Motors and that one of these was at some stage owned by Dave Lee Travis (remember him?!) – and this one, we are told, by Anthony Hamilton. The car was restored approximately ten years ago and the accompanying file includes a photographic record – this included bodywork and respray and a refresh of the interior. The car is in very good structural order, the paintwork polishes up quite nicely, with one or two areas requiring a little cosmetic improvement. The inside is good, including the nice, leather seats, and the headlining is also good. The part-vinyl roof and Webasto sunroof are again, in good order, the chromework is good but not perfect and the wire wheels are all excellent. The underneath is clean and tidy and very sound and the suspension and brakes work very well. These six-cylinder engines provide plenty of power and bags of torque, so very good to drive and this particular example has overdrive, which works very smoothly. All in all, an excellent MGC, ready for daily use. Comes with large paperwork file, V5C, Heritage Certificate and MOT.
