Description
VW GTI Mk. 1 HISTORIC Gp. 1 ELIGIBLE RACE CAR
Here is an opportunity to acquire an evocative and now rare VW Golf Mk. 1 historic race car.
Originally campaigned in the celebrated Slick 50 Championship, this example has been subject to a comprehensive rebuild with a dyno sheet indicating 158 Bhp engine plus many bills/ receipts for work & parts including up to date fire extinguisher system, seat and new harness fitted by RH Motorsport in readiness for this season. Currently on Group1 compliant 13" Minilite wheels and fitted with Dunlop race tyres, the running gear features upgraded standard front disc brakes and drums on rear with Pagid racing pads/ shoes with race springs and shock absorbers. Its current specification may also allow this car to run in the supporting 'WILLHIRE' class for production specification Touring Cars with a change of wheels and tyres.
A professional glass out respray and engine rebuild was carried out by previous owners just prior to current ownership and the car has not been used in anger since.
RH Motorsport has full workshop facilities, so a full inspection is welcomed.
A comprehensive paperwork file is also available with all invoices plus engine dyno graph & V5.
Golf GTis were prolific class winners in their day and have proved to be capable of outright wins in historic racing, as seen at the Goodwood Members Meeting.
Here is a fine example, offered without livery so that you can stamp your own mark on it when you join the grid of the prestigious HRDC 'Gerry Marshall Trophy' for historic Touring Cars in 2026!
