Description
Few things are more appealing than an exceptionally original Jaguar XJ6, and this 1973 4. 2-litre Series 2 Long Wheelbase is exactly that. Supplied to just one owner from new and remarkably still retaining its original blue V5C, this outstanding example has covered a genuine 29, 000 miles. It spent much of the last 25 years in dry storage, having remained with the same family since being laid up in 1999.
Recently recommissioned by Carnaby motors, the car has undergone a comprehensive yet sympathetic mechanical overhaul, ensuring it retains the originality that makes it so special while being ready to enjoy immediately.
The body has benefitted from a bare-metal repaint, not due to corrosion but simply to achieve the standard of finish the car deserved. The chrome remains unrestored and is in exceptional condition, while the original steel wheels are corrosion-free. Panel fit is excellent throughout, with superb shut lines, correctly adjusted doors and no evidence of accident damage or replacement panels.
Inside, the Oxblood leather interior presents in near-unused condition with only the lightest signs of age. The original wood veneers, chrome detailing and headlining are equally impressive, reflecting the car’s incredibly low mileage.
Mechanical work includes new front and rear suspension components, axle bushes and mounts, springs, shock absorbers, brake calipers and pads, flexible hoses, master cylinder and servo, four new tyres, renewed fluids, a new water pump and cooling hoses, rebuilt carburettors, electronic ignition conversion, new HT leads, plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm, along with new window seals, NOS front lenses and badges.
The exceptional history file includes the original owner’s handbook, maintenance and service book, sales brochure, Radiomobile Stereo 8 operating manual, historic tax discs and further original literature. It is supplied with an advisory-free MOT until May 2027 and, as a 1973 vehicle, is both MOT and road tax exempt.
Overall, an exceptionally honest, unspoilt and beautifully recommissioned Series 2 XJ6 LWB.
