Magnificent Restored Iconic Sportscar. Its not the shimmering Metallic Blue paintjob that’s so amazing, nor the new plush interior or the gleaming motor…it’s the ROAR this car makes when you fire it up…that ear-splitting crescendo emanating from the 4-hole chrome exhaust that can only come from the world’s most powerful production, pushrod V8 engine!
HISTORY
The car was purchased from its elderly Stateside owner who had owned it for 18 years in sunny Arizona before moving to Washington State where it was shipped to UK for restoration, during which the chassis was found to be in excellent condition thanks to the dry Arizona climate. The streamlined body is of reinforced fibreglass construction (which can’t rust or corrode and offers superb power to weight ratio) and this was stripped to the bare shell and repainted to the highest professional standards in Nassau Blue at great cost (reportedly around £4000) There is a full photo-record of this work in the car history folder. Contoured bucket seats were covered in black leather and matching cut-pile carpets with Corvette over-mats fitted. The car was transferred to Claremont Corvette where some £1650 was spent to bring it up to full UK Spec, this involved renewing front suspension as well as fine-tuning brakes and altering lights. It now drives just like the world’s greatest sportscar should.
The engine compartment looks more like a jeweller’s shop with bags of polished chrome in evidence. The 5. 7litre (small block) V8 was rebuilt some 9500 miles ago and now sports a performance-enhancer “Edelbrock” manifold and triangular Signature series air-cleaner. Normal servicing is extremely simple on this car with electronic ignition, auto hydraulic valve adjustment (also prevents over-revving) – just change the oil and filter every 12 months and grease 9 points (all at the front) With over half a million of these GM engines made spares are both cheap and readily available. The engines are also designed for unleaded fuel. Most other sportscars such as Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, E-type are non-easy to maintain and they are made of steel!
The cult body styling incorporates the sugar-scoop rear window (preferred by enthusiasts to the later wrap-around one) Removable roof panels (with storage pouches) Vacuum lifted twin 5, 3/ 4 round headlights which snap-up instantly on pulling headlight switch. Hideaway wipers, Side Marker lights, Chrome luggage rack option, Body coloured, energy-absorbing bumpers, Colour-coded sports mirrors. Tilt-adjustable 3-spoke leather covered steering wheel, Cruisemaster speed control, AM/ FM Stereo with tape deck, Stay-light feature for courtesy lights.
