EXTERIOR
The MINI has grown beyond it’s name. A look back to ten years ago with the first R53 and for many BMW achieved a balance of scale; in this case amplified further by the ultimate variant – the Works GP. The unique Thunder Blue paintwork drapes over the car so well; an appropriate offset to the black accents and diamond cut wheels. The body has been prepared beautifully and save for a handful of customary chips to front, presentation is uniform and consistent throughout.
The matte roof draws sufficient attention with the model number stamp on the off side, although the extended skirts and significant carbon rear wing provide renowned recognition of a very special machine.
INTERIOR
The first BMW Mini made a stirling job of carrying over character from the original car with the large Speedo dominating the dash arrangement. Heated Recaro seats fit snugly around both driver and passenger, a perfect match of both comfort and performance. The seats have worn well, without wear or creasing to bolsters, whilst trim fit and finish remain fresh and free of stubborn scratches or marks. An updated Kenwood head unit allows for more up-to-date musical connectivity whilst a smattering of JCW carbon confirms the unique specification.
True to paired back and focused form the car does away with the back seats, loses its rear window wiper, some sound insulation and relegates air con to the (no-cost) options resulting in a 50kg reduction in kerb weight.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Thanks to a more efficient intercooler and reprogrammed engine management the supercharged engine revs with all the intensity of a normally aspirated screamer, although the strong torque means you don’t have to over work the quick shifting six-speed ‘box to make progress. The lack of rear seats and reduced sound-deadening overlays the supercharger whine with pops and bangs of the central twin-outlet exhaust – plenty of aural drama!
The standard fit mechanical differential ensures exemplary handling, with all of the engine’s power successfully transmitted to the road.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Nearly new Dunlop SportMaxx rubber adorns all four corners wrapped around unmarked U design polished face wheels. These alloys save a significant 2kg per corner over the standard Cooper S items.
Brakes are in good shape with JCW stamped calipers showing minimal wear.
HISTORY FILE
PDI’d by Lind Ltd on the 21st August 2006, Number 786 has been serviced every 2 years with scheduled servicing as per manufacturer instructions.
With the first 4 services carried out by the BMW main dealer the last oil and gearbox service was completed by a specialist in July of 2016 at 32k miles. Front lower arm bushes were also replaced.
A whole host of invoicing sits alongside MOT certificates to verify mileage, with the official JCW Mini Tuning Kit certificate present alongside a full book pack and spare key.
