When the ‘M100’ was unveiled to an expectant public by Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley at the 1989 Earls Court British Motorfair, it heralded the arrival of the iconic, ground breaking Lotus Elan that was to rewrite the rulebook for front wheel drive cars’ ride and handling for the next two decades. Today, having probably troughed (as opposed to peaked) in terms of value a few years ago, the second iteration of the famous Elan name is finding favour with a whole new generation of Lotus fans.
Originally sold new on 1st November 1990 through Lotus Dealer Malcolm Templeton of Ballymena, Northern Ireland to a Mr Raymond Kane of Bangor, this Elan SE returned to Norfolk and was registered with the DVLA in 1996 having covered just over 6, 000 miles. Since then it has enjoyed a comprehensive service program visiting Lotus Main Dealers Bell and Colville some eight times up until the year 2000 when it had reached 50, 000 miles. Since then it has been attended to by independent garages and was most recently serviced in October last year under 1, 000 miles ago. This service record is documented in the Lotus’ original Owners Handbook and is supported by an extensive selection of invoices for work carried out over the years.
