If ever a classic sports car took Britain's passion for motorsport and planted it into the timber steering wheel wielding, goggle and leather glove clad weekend driver, it was the Austin Healey 3000.
Launched in 1959, the Austin Healey is a low slung, stylish brute of a sportscar with a raw style of power delivery that's helped it to amass a global cult following and fill scores trophy of cabinets in the process.
Equipped with roll-up side windows, chrome wire wheels and an easily operable soft top the Austin Healey to own, drive and collect is the Mk III Phase II. This was the very last model to leave the production line before the company closed its doors in 1968.
Fitted with a potent 2. 9 litre 150 hp 6 cylinder engine and 4 speed manual overdrive transmission, as well as disc brakes this "last of/ best of" edition also featured chassis and handling upgrades increasing top speed to 121mph and the 0-60mph time now dipped below 10 seconds.
The car offered was importantly one of the last 200 cars to leave the production line.
Built in late October of 1967, just a few months before production ceased this Big Healey is also a "U" chassis or Universal chassis, making it all the more special and is offered in stunning Ivory over Black trim.
Painstakingly and professionally restored from the ground-up, this rare car was originally sold to the United States and arrived on Australian shores in 2005, when the restoration began.
From the bare metal bodywork and flawless paintwork to the detailed rebuild of the engine, transmission, differential, suspension, brakes interior trim, switch gear and dials and finally the soft-top the top tier standard of finish resulted in this car taking the '08 and '09 Austin Healey Owner's Club concours events.
Meticulously maintained post restoration, today this car still presents in outstanding condition. All the small details are correct; the firm bucket seats glue the driver to the centre of the car, the interior trim shows zero signs of age the timber steering wheel is pristine and outside the bodywork is gun-barrel straight.
Accompanied by a detailed history folio with an original owner's handbook, receipts for the entire restorative process, photographs and a concours award certificate this Austin Healey is something quite special.
Offered in turn-key condition this rare and unrivalled sports classic is perfect for weekend escapes into the mountains and equally as capable at wetting appetites on the concours lawn.
One for the driver and the savvy collector, this last of Austin Healey 3000 Mk III Phase II will not last long.
