Here is my 1977 Allegro Vanden Plas - and she comes with an amazing past. She has had just two owners from new, covering a mere 33, 000 miles in the process. The original owner, based on The Isle of Man, kept her until 30 years ago when he sold it to a chap in Liverpool who was 65-years-old at the time. That same gentleman, now 95, owned it until last week when he decided to part with it. During his ownership, he managed to cover 4, 000 miles. Yes, 4, 000! The original Passport to Service book is stamped up all the way from new until 29, 000 miles when it left The Isle of Man. Until that point, the original supplying dealer had carried out all the work.
She is in her original Russet Brown and has probably the smartest Alllegro Vanden Plas interior I have ever seen. I don't think the rear seat has ever been sat on and the front seats are virtually as good. Great wood and original carpets too. She drives like a new car (well a new car in the 70s) and her 4-speed auto box is super. Obviously if you don't wish to use all the gears, then just pop her into Drive mode and she will do all the gear changing for you. She's very smart body-wise and I see no signs of her ever having been welded. Floor pans are all in original body colour and the original sound deadening mats are in place beneath the cream carpets. The ashtrays have never been used and, by the look of it, neither has the cigarette (sorry, they used to call them cigar!) lighter. There are some small areas where the paint has begun to blister and scab, mainly around seams. The worst of these is an area on the scuttle in front of the windscreen on the passenger side. In bright light, it looks to me like the two doors on the same side are not an exact paint match. Although I find this a little baffling as I can't see any signs of the vehicle ever having been painted anywhere!
Her MoT expired a couple of days ago and so I will have a fresh test put on in time for the new owner to take her away and cherish. Remember, as lovely as she is, she is not a new car. She is 40-years-old in a couple of months and she will qualify for free road tax at that point. I require a ten per cent deposit at the point of sale with the balance due within three days.
