Description
1982 Austin Mini Van in grey with a white roof, and wheels. Most of the commercial minis have had a hard life and are also difficult and expensive to restore. This Mini Van has been restored to a level that I have never seen. The bottom half of the van including all of the floors, bulkhead, rear load area, wheel arches, sills, door steps, plus the whole front end is brand new not repaired. These are the areas which sees most of the rust and if you replace them all, you are left with no old metal or hidden rust which in time will come back through. Please see the pictures on my website.
Once the bodyshell was finished it had 2 new door fitted which were £610 each. The front and rear subframes have been powder coated with all new brakes, shocks and hi low struts. The engine, gearbox, clutch and all ancillaries have all been renewed / reconditioned. The wheels have been refurbished and the tyres were all new. The interior has new Newton Commercial, door cards, dash panels, carpets, and roof lining. It also has very comfortable seats to match the colour scheme. An oil pressure and water temperature gauge have been added for piece of mind. Since this van has been finished it has covered around 3000 miles and it is now showing 39400 miles. Once you turn the central MK 2 key to start the engine, it drives wonderfully well and feels tight and precise on the road with strong acceleration and braking. The sign writing looks lovely and is very traditional which was added with a very steady hand in paint which can be removed if necessary. To repeat this process would cost in excess of £20, 000 plus the cost of a donor van if you could find someone capable of this level of restoration. If you want a mini van to last another 35 years this must be the one! Where ever I take this van it is loved and admired by all people of all ages!
