1996 P reg unmolested model with rare and desirable options and a huge service history file to back up its provenance as one of the very best classic X300's available for sale. It is in great original order throughout and much has been spent to keep it in the condition you see here. I'd been looking for one for quite some time as I love the style, interior and noise of the straight 6.
Is has completed just 82, 000 genuine miles from new which is also backed up by an extensive service history, 2 original keys and MOT file through the DVLA - the miles are 100% genuine. It has wanted for nothing with any items renewed with genuine parts as required. In July it had a full service including changing the coolant and gearbox oil. Shifts are super-smooth and refined and both the switchable Normal and Sport modes work perfectly.
The standard specification includes a full Biscuit leather interior with Sports seats, Automatic Climate control (works great) multi speaker audio system, Traction Control, Trip Computer, Front fog lamps, Remote central locking with alarm, Leather steering wheel, Wooden gear knob, 17" 5 spoke alloy wheels (recently refurbished to original specification and look stunning) Electrically adjustable front seats, Cruise control, Electric ariel, All round electric windows and a driver's airbag. Further options fitted at the factory on this car include a 6 disc CD autochanger and attractive exterior coach line running down the side.
Inside the leather is in fantastic shape with minimal wear on the surfaces. The original dark stained wood veneers are also excellent, as is the headliner, all the brightware and the carpets. The digital clock has the common XJ issue of losing its display but this can be easily remedied by a company on a well-known auction site who will refurbish it to ask-new for just over £50. The sunroof’s motors work but it doesn’t yet open (yet doesn’t leak at all), again not such an issue for me as I prefer using air conditioning anyway.
When I got the car I got it onto a ramp to give it a full underside inspection. I was happy to see that the car was in fantastic shape here and to help preserve this condition long into the future I have had the panels, whole underside and various box sections professionally waxoiled to reduce the risk of any corrosion taking hold in future.
Outside the body is in remarkably good condition given its age with very much below average amount of marks or dents. The front end is surprisingly free of stone chips and there is no rust apparent anyway, this situation being reflected in how good condition the underside was also. The boot does have a couple of dents and the rear bumper chrome could do with replacement (easily available for less than £100 from a well-known auction site) at some point if perfection is the objective.
The centre piece of this era of XJR is its bullet-proof engine and this car does not disappoint; there are no rattles, leaks, creaks, smoke or other noises as you would expect from such a well cared for car. It sounds glorious and smooth and everything works exactly as it should with no warning lights or dodgy sensors.
This engine is known for its durability as well as its performance, being able to cover vast mileages with ease. The differentials are also in great shape with no clunks, whirrs or rattles. The brakes work very well with both discs and pads being healthy with no sticking callipers or warping. The exhaust has been replaced with a high quality stainless steel item which will last the lifetime of the car and isn't loud or antisocial.
The suspension and steering also feel great, this being helped by the recent work that has been completed. The front anti-roll bar bushes have been renewed and tyres recently replaced and balanced so it tracks straight and true with none of the sloppiness and wobbling associated with less well cared for cars. The steering is sharp and responsive and the ride firm yet very compliant – This may be a sports saloon but it is still very comfortable indeed to drive or be driven in.
It has a full 12 months MOT until November 2018, is HPI clear also qualifies for cheap road tax and classic car insurance. It has had its major service in July so won't need another one for some time (and then it will just be the minor oil service). The correct Gulf oil and oil filter are also included with the sale.
This is almost certainly the best original UK XJR on sale and makes a great, understated and cool alternative to the BMW M5, Mercedes E55 AMG or Maserati Quattroporte.
It is a very rare and appreciating asset and a bullet-proof investment that would suit someone who wants to use it as everyday transport or someone who would prefer to cherish it as part of their collection of modern classics.
