We are pleased to offer this October 1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4. 2 Fixed Head Coupe on behalf of its current custodian, who has recently purchased another car from us and simply needs the space.
Displaying a genuine 87, 381 miles from new, this E-Type has covered approximately 2630 miles since its comprehensive bare-metal restoration in 1990–91.
The car was purchased in 1989 from Simon Robinson Classics in Darlington, at which point it was described as original and in superb condition. Shortly thereafter, the owner commissioned a no-expense-spared rebuild through a Durham-based main dealership with classic facilities. The restoration included:
• Bare-metal respray with new metal where required
• Engine rebuild
• Gearbox rebuild
• Full suspension overhaul
• Rear subframe removal and brake system rebuild
The accompanying restoration book documents the work in detail and records the car as being restored to “concours condition.” An MOT issued upon completion shows 84, 751 miles, aligning precisely with the current indicated mileage.
A copy of the original buff logbook confirms the car has spent most of its life in the North East. It was originally light blue — evidence of which was found during the restoration.
Following completion, the car entered a private collection and was used sparingly over the next 30 years, covering approximately 500 dry miles only.
Acquired by our client in 2021, the car has since been lightly enjoyed at local events. Sensible recommissioning has included:
• New galvanised fuel tank
• Replacement fuel and coolant hoses
• Brake system overhaul
• Clutch hydraulic refresh
Our in-house workshop has now completed a health check, road test, and professional detail.
This is a properly restored, well-documented Series 2 4. 2 FHC with genuine mileage and measured use. It drives exactly as a well-sorted example should — torquey, refined and confidence-inspiring.
