ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SPUR LWB - KUR868Y
INTRODUCTION:
The Silver Spirit is a British saloon motor car that was produced by Rolls-Royce Motors, in Crewe, England. It was launched in 1980 as the first model in the SZ series.
The Silver Spur is a long-wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit, produced at the same time. The Spirit was the first car to feature the retractable Spirit of Ecstasy. The spring-loaded Mascot sank into the radiator shell if dislodged from its position.
The Silver Spirit, introduced by Rolls-Royce in 1980, was the first of a new generation of models for the company. It formed the basis for the Flying Spur, Silver Dawn, Touring Limousine, Park Ward and apart from branding differences and a different radiator housing also Bentley for the Mulsanne/ Eight series.
The Spirit/ Spur was not entirely new – it continued to use the basic design of the Silver Shadow as well as that motor car's 6. 75 L (6750 cc/ 411 in³) V8 engine and GM sourced THM 400 3-speed automatic transmission. The Spur / Spirit continued the emphasis toward a high degree of ride quality by utilising the self-leveling suspension from the previous model Silver Shadow, though in this application using a Girling automatic hydraulic ride height control system and gas-charged shock absorbers.
Manufactured from 1980 to 1989, worldwide production totalled 6240 units of which only 51 cars remain in the UK today (30 licensed on UK roads with 21 declared SORN)
This makes this a very rare vehicle indeed, much more so than the standard wheelbase Silver Spirit..
Finished in an Exeter Blue exterior with a Beige leather interior piped blue and contrasting Blue Everflex Roof this Spur is most definitely a timeless Rolls Royce colour scheme! Registered in 1982 by Jack Barclay Ltd, Berkeley Square, London
The combination of this colour, condition, long wheel base and superb value for money will make for an ideal useable classic for someone or a great wedding car!.
Worth noting that the Spur also features a retractable spirit of ecstasy as standard, well ahead of its time in 1982!
SERVICE HISTORY:
We have the most wonderful service history for this car including all keys, manuals, original service book and build card. The car was in long term ownership with one gentleman in London (documented) and he had a huge amount of servicing (eighteen in total completed by Jack Barclay) The car then passed to a few more owners who have kept the vehicle in fantastic order mechanically . We are in possession of a lever arch file full of service documentation and receipts dating back to when the car was first registered which we are happy to discuss with any potential owners at length.
BODYWORK:
A very presentable car overall paintwork in good condition with no major rust at all, a small piece of corrosion to the lower nearside front wing and a few minor alloy reactions in the paint (I have photographed and listed all of these). The ever flex roof is in great condition with no rips, scuffs or lifting of the adhesive in any areas whatsoever.
This is a very nice car overall and we are probably over describing it to a certain extent but we believe this is the best way to be - this may put certain people off but we like to be realistic and up front rather than being one of those people who says yes “its perfect” only for you to arrive and find it is far from it or been badly repainted in the past which is more than likely hiding a multitude of sins aswell.
For customers enquiring from a distance away or even overseas we are happy to do a video presentation to confirm condition and also for you to be able to hear the car running.
INTERIOR:
Period cream interior with contrast piping, the leather has worn very well and has no cracking or damage whatsoever. The veneers have been refurbished at some point in the past as they are free from any cracking of the lacquer which is usually a common issue on spur/ spirit of this vintage.
WHEELS AND TYRES:
All four whitewall tyres are in good condition as are the four polished hubcaps, no buckles and the car drives very straight and true
MECHANICAL CONDITION/ TEST DRIVE:
We collected this car just this week and drove it home from the vendor circa 70 miles . It drove without fault, everything works just as it should and there are no warning lights displayed and no issues mechanically or electrically that we are aware of. Potential purchasers are welcome to have any mechanical inspection completed if you require further piece of mind.
