Description
Sunbeam Alpine Mk5
Introduced in 1959, the Sunbeam Alpine was a natural rival to cars such as the MGA and Triumph TR3. Built around a steel monocoque, it featured independent coil-sprung front suspension, a 'live' rear axle and disc / drum brakes. Unveiled in 1965, the final MKV variant was equipped with the Rootes Group's latest four-cylinder engine - a five-bearing crankshaft 1725cc unit rated at 92. 5bhp - which proved notably more powerful and refined than its predecessors.
Our Mk5 car is in the best colour, Carnival Red, with excellent black/ red piped interior. The car has covered just 7000 miles in in the last 25 years and is in absolutely stunning condition. The Alpine is an original roadster, not a GT that has been converted, and benefits from the desirable overdrive gearbox. Originally an export model the car has escaped the ravages of English winters and the body/ chassis is rust free with excellent red paint.
On the road the car is a pleasure to drive with the overdrive gearbox making the car well suited to today’s driving conditions and a hood design that is easy to erect/ stow away. The history file contains all MOT’s since 1992, original owner’s handbook, a variety of invoices and rare workshop manual.
Milestones originally sold this car two years ago and we are delighted to have the opportunity to market her again. The Alpine arguably looks and drives better than many of the contemporary sports cars available when new and with just 19, 000 Mk5’s being manufactured the model is now relatively rare.
Ready to enjoy this summer we expect this lovely example to sell quickly
