Beschreibung
This 1984 Mercedes AMG Widebody has been in the same family from new with 2 recorded keepers.
It was built when it was new by appointed AMG agents Ron Stratton of Wilmslow.
The modifications included the following:
AMG Penta alloys.
AMG Bodykit- front bumper and lower spoiler, front wide wings ( specially made) lower door sections which fit into the shape of the sill when the doors are shut. Sill covers. Rear bumper moulded into the rear flared arches.
Rear bootlid spoiler which laps over the rear quarter panels.
Engine tuning. This comprised of twin Webber Carburettors , piper cross air filter, high lift cam, ported head.
Gearbox 5 Speed Manual ( not dogleg)
Suspension lowered and stiffened.
Brakes Disc brakes all round.
Interior. AMG Steering Wheel and walnut cappings on the dashboard door tops and gear lever.
To have this car converted when new was extremely costly , making it a rarity and according to the first family owner cost more than a new Porsche 911 at that time.
The car has been laid up in a dry garage for 14 years and after light recommissioning the engine started and the car drove well.
It is in need of further improvement namely welding to the rear inner wheel arches which are corroded.
The only other example of a 190 Widebody built by Stratton’s from new belonged to Ringo Starr ( the Beatles) which resides in the Mercedes Benz museum in Germany.
