Motodrome are pleased to offer a really fine example of one of our favourite 1980’s sports coupes – a 1988 BMW 635 CSi Automatic, finished in Burgundy Metallic with contrasting full leather sports trim.
Strictly speaking, it’s a Highline as it has all-leather interior with the exception of the dashtop and door tops. As far as I know, the early highlines suffered from the leather on the dashtops and door tops coming off, so BMW reverted to the earlier type while they sorted that out. The rare 1988 model brochure that comes with the car shows them thus configured.
Whilst these are capable of starship mileages (my last daily driver had covered 215000 miles when I sold it and it was still running like a train), and most have done well into the 150’s now, this one is a rare find as it has an odometer reading of just 88000 miles.
It also has excellent provenance in that the last owner had it for fully 14 years, and it’s only had 4 previous owners in total
Usual Highline spec - fitted with switchable automatic transmission, full leather, BMW sports seats, aircon, abs. electric seats/ sunroof/ windows/ mirrors, central locking, trip computer, HLWW, front fogs, alloys, rear spoiler, rear headrests, and rear blind.
This one also left the factory with limited slip diiferential, and cruise control (which still works), and it’s also fitted with a modern Kenwood stereo.
Rarely, it’s also fitted with the correct-spec metric tyres, on the correct alloys, and in my opinion they ride and handle so much better on the correct tyres. We've just fitted 2 new Michelin's of the correct spec to the front.
In late 2016, the last owner commissioned a body restoration as she was looking a little tired. This ended up costing over £6700, but has resulted in a stunning-looking E24.
History wise, we have the original sales invoice from 1988, the original service book with 15 service stamps in it, old MOT’s back to 2000, and a selection of bills including the aforementioned £6700 one, which details what was done. It's just been through our workshop for a full service and sort out including new viscous fan coupling.
It comes with MOT to September 2018 and 6 months warranty too (if sold in the UK)
