Hexagon Classics is delighted to offer this exceptional 1968 Jaguar 4. 2 Litre E-Type Series 1 ½ 2+2. This particular car has been maintained and upgraded regardless of cost and is presented in Carmen red with black leather interior.
Manufactured between 1961 and 1975, the Jaguar E-Type is a motoring icon that was described by Enzo Ferrari as ‘the most beautiful car ever made.’ The car was launched with a 3. 8 litre engine that was later upgraded to 4. 2 litres in 1964. In 1968 to bridge the gap between the series 1 and 2 production cars, Jaguar produced the 2+2. A combination of classic E-Type style and performance with every day practicality, make this is an incredibly appealing car.
The original bodywork remains in excellent condition and has been maintained alongside the rest of the car with no expense spared. The car was bought by its previous owner in 1991 and during their 27 year ownership, the car only covered 14, 800 miles. Throughout their ownership the car was constantly stored in an air conditioned and dehumidified garage. Combined with professional paintwork detailing and hand waxing and it is no surprise that this E-Type is presented in immaculate condition.
It was during the previous ownership that this car received many of its extensive upgrades that make the car so useable and desirable today. A complete engine rebuild only 5000 miles ago that involved full balancing and a cylinder head conversion for unleaded fuel ensure that the engine is of the highest quality. The rebuilt engine is complemented by an all new 5 speed Tremec/ Getrag competition short throw gearbox. The chassis has been subject to similar improvements with the front and rear suspension having been fully refurbished with Koni classic dampers all round.
The car has never been raced but has been regularly exercised on track to test and set up the suspension and engine and gearbox upgrades. The sole aim with all upgrades to the car has been to make it useable on a daily basis and to be great grand tourer. Examples of such modifications include a Becker audio and sat nat system, electronic ignition, power steering with quick release steering wheel, uprated heater and an uprated alternator and CK battery conditioner port.
The car comes with a full and detailed paper history of all work done since its original purchase including original handbooks, MOT’s and tax discs. This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire to a stunningly prepared 2+2 E-Type and is available for viewing at our London showroom.
