As you can see from the pics, this is a very late, wire wheel’d, ex police bmw r80.
There are a number of things that make this particular bike very special indeed. The first is the spec. It’s increasingly rare to see the later twin Brembo disc brake set up, along with the wire wheels. You’ll also see that she’s fitted with the later air box, and handlebar mounted choke lever and brake master cylinder. All factory spec of course.
The second point of interest is the bikes history. Would you believe that it has had only one (ex police) owner since it was de commissioned from Cumbria Constabulary back in 1987. The bike is genuinely un molested in every way, and even still carries its original police calibrated speedometer.
The bike has been garaged and unused for over 17 years, and it’s condition is a real testament to the build quality of these old Boxers. It even still carries its original paintwork.
There are obviously lots of options for the new owner with this one. I guess that the obvious one would be the basis for an interesting special, especially with those wire wheels and twin Brembo brakes, and although i can understand that, In some ways, it would be a real shame. The bike has the genuine patina (a much overused term i believe !) of a lovely old motorcycle, and i see that the original police panniers and rear box seem to crop up at reasonable prices on the likes of ebay.
I would sugest that this is a real opportunity to acquire a great old Boxer. The bike is off the button, hot or cold, with neutral, oil, and charge lights operating as they should. No exhaust smoke, and she ticks over like a watch. The bike will come with a fresh MOT, and an oil service at point of sale.
Even at this price, we’ll consider YOUR classic in part exchange, especially BMW Airheads.
