I just love it. You see, this is how it works. When you were a three-year-old car-mad kid and now you are a 63-year-old kid, then you just can't help yourself. You get excited by makes and models. And all the more so when you finally get your sticky mitts on something you have always coveted and never owned. So here it is. My first ever Standard Vanguard Luxury Six!
Yes, the Luxury Six. Launched at The Motor Show in November 1960, this beautiful piece of design and engineering continued until 1963 when it was eventually replaced by the new Triumph 2000. And therein lies the story of the Vanguard Luxury Six. A mere 9, 000 were built during that period and only a handful survive today. But, unlike previous Standard Vanguard Phase 3 models, this last throw of the dice by Standard (Standard-Triumph as they were at the time) changed the car altogether. It wasn't just a prettier looking model with oodles of chrome and a luxurious interior with a delightful dashboard. No, it's launch marked the first appearance of the company's 2-litre straight six engine. Hence when the dear old Vanguard was deemed old-fashioned, in came the brand new Triumph 2000 and under its bonnet went the Vanguard Six's power unit. Triumph were later to use this in the GT6 and the Vitesse.
This beautiful and rare old girl in two-tone light blue and grey is a stunning site to behold. She motors exceptionally well, displaying loads of power from that 80 bhp engine and is a delight to drive. Her interior is just as impressive as her bodywork while she looks really strong underneath. She has a current MoT until August although she will no longer need one due to new legislation. Her current MoT was issued with no advisories!
I have been unable to find another Luxury Six for sale anywhere in Europe at the time of writing this advert and so there is rarity for you. I think she is absolutely superb. The exterior sun visor, by the way, is metal.
Remember that these old girls are motoring antiques. Practically every one of them will have been subjected to work at some time in their long lives and they are bound to need more love and attention in the future. Context is all with classic cars. Please do not run your finger over them and compare them to your wife's new Chelsea tractor! Like the majority of classics, this Standard is not perfect but remains a Condition One example.
I accept all major debit/ credit cards and can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Thanks, Martin the details below).
